New Quizzes Timeline Updates

Classic Quizzes Timeline

Instructure has spoken to many institutions about the move from Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes, and they have decided to extend access to Classic Quizzes in Canvas until June 30, 2024.

If you are unsure of what New Quizzes is, it is the new native quizzing engine within the Canvas LMS. Some noteworthy changes in New Quizzes are student Accommodation (applies to all assessments created in Quizzes) and Moderation (applies only to the current assessment). It also allows instructors to shuffle questions as well as answers. Instructure has also added additional questions types such as Stimulus, Ordering, and Hot Spot to New Quizzes. You can also print quizzes, require a waiting period between assessment attempts, and more.

This sunset date change for Classic Quizzes does not impact their planned release schedule for New Quizzes. The extension of Classic Quizzes is simply driven by customer feedback to support the needs of both educators and students.

Typically, Instructure refrains from communicating future plans beyond the current quarter. However, in their conversations with clients, it became clear that they need to provide clarity in what and when additional improvements are planned for New Quizzes. The following format is a modified now/next/later product roadmap.
