Bongo AI: Enhancements for Teachers and Students

Bongo has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) features to enhance both student coaching and teacher support in academic settings. Currently, Bongo AI is incorporated into two main areas: AI Coaching and Smart Score for teachers and AI Coaching for students. 

For Teachers: AI Coaching and Smart Scoring

Bongo’s AI features for instructors focus on simplifying the creation of Learning Objectives and using Smart Score to assess student responses.

• AI Coaching - Learning Objective Creation: Teachers can modify Learning Objectives generated by Bongo from various content types, such as white papers, articles, and video transcripts. While teachers can’t create Learning Objectives from scratch, they can adjust these auto-generated objectives to better fit course needs. Be aware that Bongo advises caution in three main areas when editing Learning Objectives:
  • Maintain the Prompt Quality: Major edits can impact feedback and scoring quality, as the criteria and objectives work together to create accurate coaching prompts.
  • Consistency in Theme: Learning Objectives and criteria should remain aligned; misaligned criteria (e.g., mixing topics) may reduce feedback relevance.
  • Verb Customization: Adjusting the action verbs (e.g., "Describe" to "Demonstrate") can refine how the AI evaluates student work, ensuring alignment with instructional goals.
• Smart Score: Designed for Individual Projects and Q&A assignments, Smart Score enables automatic scoring of student responses based on specific answer criteria. Each question is configured with a set point value to streamline student assessment.  

Teachers can edit scores in Individual Projects and should know that Smart Score and Auto Analysis operate independently. This means if Smart Score is chosen, Auto Analysis scores are hidden to avoid potential student confusion. In terms of accuracy, Smart Score’s evaluation is reported to be within 5% of traditional teacher grading after extensive testing and can still be adjusted by instructors if needed.

For Students: AI Coaching

Bongo’s AI Coaching platform provides tone analysis and coaching tips with feedback for students, helping them improve communication and presentation skills.

• Tone Analysis: This feature assesses a student’s presentation based on aspects such as:
  • Confidence vs. Nervous
  • Persuasive vs. Informative
  • Humorous vs. Serious
  • Casual vs. Formal
• Coaching Tips and Feedback: After a student uploads a video, Bongo’s AI Coach offers specific feedback in three key areas: opportunities for improvement, areas of excellence, and unique attributes of the presentation. To back up its recommendations, the tool highlights specific examples directly from the student’s transcript.

Additionally, Bongo AI Coaching supports multiple languages, including Arabic, Dutch, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese. However, detailed coaching feedback based on specific learning objectives is verified only in English, and the feedback depends on the browser language settings used during video recording or upload.
