Canvas Portfolio
Canvas now provides two portfolio options designed to meet different needs: Evaluation Portfolios for instructor-directed assessments and Showcase Portfolios for learner-led expressions. Together, these portfolio tools support reflective storytelling, competency demonstration, and meaningful assessment.
Evaluation Portfolios
Evaluation Portfolios are designed to support structured, instructor-led assessments and provide insight into learner development over time.
- Portfolios can be built using one or multiple Canvas courses linking directly to relevant assignments and competencies.
- Instructors can define required evidence to clarify expectations and ensure consistent demonstrations of learning.
- Portfolio artifacts can be aligned with institutional competencies to help learners showcase targeted skills and knowledge.
- Educators have real-time visibility into learner progress including submission status and overall completion.
- Grading is streamlined through integration with Canvas assignments and SpeedGrader.
- Instructors can review learner reflections and narratives to gain deeper insight into learning outcomes.
- Feedback, revisions, and resubmissions are supported to encourage iteration and improvement.
Showcase Portfolios
Showcase Portfolios empower learners to curate and present their experiences, growth, and achievements beyond traditional coursework.
- Learners can create customized portfolios organized around themes, experiences, or chronological progress.
- Portfolios can include a wide range of evidence, such as Canvas assignment submissions, uploaded media, and written reflections.
- Tagging features allow learners to highlight specific skills, competencies, or themes that align with academic, personal, or career goals.
- Completed portfolios can be exported as PDF or HTML files with options to bulk download uploaded content.
- Learners can share their work externally using public links or publish directly to LinkedIn.
This enhancement modernizes the Canvas portfolio experience with a cleaner interface and more adaptable tools. Instructors gain the ability to design structured, competency-based portfolio assignments, while learners can present academic and co-curricular accomplishments through reflections, tagging, and shareable formats supporting authentic assessment and preparation for real-world applications.
